The University of Michigan (U-M) privacy statement recognizes the value of privacy of the university community members and its guests.

This unit-level privacy notice provides more specific information on how the office of Property Disposition collects and processes your personal information.

SCOPE

The notice applies to our practices for gathering and disseminating information related to the Office of Property Disposition ecommerce website (“we”, “us”, or “our”) and is meant to provide you an overview of our practices when collecting and processing personal information.

HOW WE COLLECT INFORMATION

We collect personal information in the following circumstances

  • Direct Collection:

    Personal information is collected when you sign up for our newsletter or create an account on the site. Information is also collected when you complete and submit online forms.

  • Automated Processes:
    • Browser information is collected when you access the site.
    • Purchasing history is collected after each sales transaction on the site, including attempted purchases, such as information related to an abandoned shopping cart.
  • Third-Party Collection:
    • Property Disposition Customer Facebook posts are collected via Facebook.
    • Google Analytics, Google Search stats are collected from Google when users search or visit our website.

WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Direct Collection

We directly collect the following personal information:

  • Customer Name, Email, Business Name, Address, Date of Birth, and preferred shopping notifications.

Automated Collection

During your visit to our site, we automatically collect and store certain information, which includes:

  • Internet Domain, IP Address, Location, Type of Browser, Date/Time of access, Items Viewed, Items Purchased, and Items in Cart, Search History.

Third-Party Collection

We collect personal information from vendor partners that provide goods and services to the university. The information includes Facebook Poster’s username, Date of Post, Likes, Content of post.

We may also use third-party advertising and marketing providers such as Google Analytics, Facebook, Google Adwords, and Facebook Ads. Information collected through these partners includes:

  • Date/Time of visit, Information viewed, Visitor location, Visit duration, Search terms used.

HOW THIS INFORMATION IS USED

We collect and use information about you to:

  • Provide you with services, such as fulfilling your orders and responding to your inquiries
  • Maintain our website through monitoring website performance, making improvements to site content and navigation, and optimizing search results
  • Promote our services to prospective customers.

WITH WHOM THIS INFORMATION IS SHARED

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may, however, share your personal information in limited circumstances, such as with university partners or external service providers that support business activities. An example of a service provider is our e-commerce platform provider, Ecomitize.

We require these service providers to keep your personal information secure, and do not allow them to use or share your personal information for any purpose other than providing services on our behalf.

We may also share your personal information when required by law, or when we believe sharing will help to protect the safety, property, or rights of the university, members of the university community, and university guests.

WHAT CHOICES YOU CAN MAKE ABOUT YOUR INFORMATION

Direct and Third-Party Collection

You can choose to be added to our mailing lists and create an account on the site so they can store notification preferences about the items they wish to know are in stock. Please contact us at Property.Disposition@umich.edu to request your account be deleted or if you would like to be removed from our mailing list.

Automated Collection: Cookies
